After seeing the trailer for this movie a few times, I couldn't believe how unfathomably bad it looked. And, after the massive, horrendous, hateful disappointment that was Transformers 2, I wasn't sure whether or not I could take another of my childhood franchises being pillaged.
But, I went to see it and had a blast! Surprisingly well paced, and well acted for the most part (except for our wooden main character, who looks to replace Neo as the most woodenly acted action hero in existence.) Cheesy, campy, and predictable, but genuinely, completely fun.
Oh, and Sienna Miller is holy-shit-hot as the Baroness. She got a lot of screen time and really made the most of it.
The CG (especially the ships and planes) is a bit cruddy, but I've got an eye for that sort of thing as I used to do 3D modeling and animation and it probably won't pop out to anyone else.
However, award for the worst CG I've seen in a recent feature film goes to this movie for one scene: the polar bear in a blizzard. I mean, come on... it's a POLAR BEAR IN A BLIZZARD? How do you fuck that one up? The Coca-Cola polar bears years ago were done better than that!
