nonononononononono you've got to be kidding me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvHEm4-QB2o]YouTube - the Karate Kid trailer - JACKIE CHAN JADEN SMITH
1st point: Jackie Chan is Chinese. Kung Fu is Chinese. Karate is Japanese. Jackie Chan is not Japanese and this movie takes place in China. Um, IIRC correctly Karate was started in response to Chinese occupation of Japan.
I took Karate as a kid, there was no karate in that video. That looked much more like Kung Fu to my eyes. A small point almost no one is going to get, but still fuck them for grouping all asians together.
Secondly, don't remake a classic like The Karate Kid for at least 60 years. This is like remaking Ghostbusters, Back to the Future or Real Genius, just don't fucking do it! they're classics that are still relevant and they represent the 80s, a classic time period.
There's no replacing classic lines like:
"Sweep the leg, do you have a problem with that?"
"Put him in a body bag!!! yeeaaaaaaah! hihihihihhihihihihi!"
"Fear does not exist in this dojo, does it?"
and absolute the best quote from any movie ever:
"Why don't you take a worm for a walk week?!"
Also, one thing I noticed I thought was amusing...
In the 80s movie, Daniel-san had to "wax on" and he also "wacks off"
In this movie, the kid has to "jacket on" and "jack it off".
bottom line: you've got to be fucking kidding me.
What was so wrong with the original that they have to re-do it? Or any of these hollywood re-makes for that matter? Lame.
