Do yourselves a favor - DO NOT Google anything related to this series anymore. There's crazy ass spoilers in the suggested searches now. Eg you put in "Quick Ben" and the suggest search is "Quick Ben is Really Shadowthrone". (He's not, btw, I made that up, but you get the idea).
Toll the Hounds by Steven Erikson (2008) - eBay (item 380064312894 end time Oct-14-08 21:44:27 PDT)
Just snagged a copy, that's a hell of a price too.
Hey, Chris. You know how I said I was looking for these books and couldn't find them at all? Well, I found Gardens of the Moon about a month ago and now I'm 90% through it (about 50 more pages to go) and I randomly found Deadhouse Gates at the bookstore a few days ago, so I bought that too. I wrote this in another thread, but no one commented.
Kinda what I thought about Erikson's writing:
Does he get over this weakness in the following books in the series? Because the stories are really interesting, but yeah...I really really like his storylines and his characters, but he has a lot of things that annoy me. Especially how he'll introduce a story and spend a long time building it up and just when it's getting super interesting, he'll break away to a new story with people we've never known on the other side of the world and then spend 100 pages talking about them without cutting back to the first story and when it's got you hooked and you're starting to be really interested, he cuts away to a new third story and does the same thing again. Once all three stories are started, they all wind up being deeply intertwined and connected, but when you're reading, it can be pretty annoying. However, his overall storylines are very very interesting and I like the whole brutal dark fantasy thing he has going on. Reminds me of the stuff I wrote in high school which was very gorey dark fantasy where main characters would get killed off left and right.
Anyway, overall, pretty sweet so far. I guess that's why I bought the second book.
