The Ducati Desmo 500 Sport lives again after sitting since `83. Suprisingly, the bike runs quite well for sitting so long. Not the fastest 500 twin I have thrown a leg over, but the Italian sound and vibe make up for it.

I wasn't in the market for an old Ducati, but a friend kept telling me about the bike, so I went and looked at it last tuesday, and it was so clean and weird that it came home with me. Definately has that old Ducati vibe!

My girlfriend is looking for a second bike, must be available used for $3000 or so, must be relatively modern (I don't want to add another charity case to the garage :P), must have more juice than her Honda 250, and must not be a cruiser. It also has to be short enough for her to get on it and take it off the side stand (5'2" with a 28" or so inseam). She rode a Ninja 250 but didn't like the feel of it - had to wind it up too high to make any power. I have no idea what else is out there that meets her criteria.

I know most bikes can be lowered, but it's hard to make a decision to buy something without getting a solid feel for how it'll be after it's modified.

A guy I work with has one of these, and it got it brand new for insanely short money.

Hyosung Motors USA

He's put about 15,000 trouble-free miles on it, and loves it. His 250 was $3500 brand new, with bags and stuff.

I would sit her on something like an SV 650. I am sure you can find one a few years old in that price range. They are a great little bike. A friends Ex used to have one and I rode it a couple of times. It is no Gixxer but enough tourque to play with that it is still a fun little bike.

That or a Ninja 500 like was said already.

Keith's girl is a tiny little thing though, an SV650 might be a bit much for her.

Rossi debuts the on-board Gyroscopic camera. Awesome footage. Amazing that he can ride like that with a broken leg.

So I did a course, got my license, bought a helmet and jacket and some gloves and I'm looking for a bike. I'm looking second hand, but I don't know what to look for really in terms of "is this bike completely fucked or not?" What's high km's on a bike, how old's too old, are there any obvious things I should check when looking? Do you guys know anything about Hyosung?
