We have about 70+ hard drives here at work that we need to dispose of (server, laptop and desktop) and need an easy way to dispose of them since it's a government office. They don't want to pay for an SSI shredding company (they're cheap) to take care of it, so they bought a drill press for the lab. I managed to get through 1 drive (3 holes) before the bit shit the bed. They bought the ones for drilling metal (carbide I think?) but it still only made it through 1 and a half drives. What do you server dudes use when you dispose of drives? They have a degausser over in our data center, but apparently we can only do like 1-2 drives at a time, and then wait for 30-40 minutes for it to cool down.
Am I doing something wrong with the drill? The first drive it cuts through like butter for 2 holes, the third one not so smooth, then won't go into the next drive. Even doing 1-2 holes per drive, that's going to be a shit ton of bits...
The drives can't be wiped with software either since they're bad, either mechanically or just a fuck ton of bad sectors so the software just shits the bed and won't continue to wipe them.
