You could just change the plugs, but changing the full cable saves your ass in case the break isn't just right at the plug end, and gives you an opportunity to upgrade them (i.e. something heavier/better shielded).

You're right though, this thing looks like a pain in the ass to work on. What got me about it was that there seems to be no obvious adjustments to be made...it's just as it is haha. The problem I'm facing though is the lack of a manual, service/maintenance info, and spare parts suppliers.

Yeah, it's cool that there's no adjustments required, but it limits you on upgrades, and definitely is a bitch for maintenance. I'm more of a fan of really basic, fully-manual, belt-drive tables with standard half-inch mount cartridges. Project and Rega both make some excellent tables in the $400+ range, and you can usually find some really decent condition used tables from either company for really decent deals. They also both make some excellent phono preamps.
