I can't figure out the business model for spam. I don't know anybody who's ever bought anything as a result of getting an unsolicited email in their inbox. Who pays for the spam, and what do they possibly hope to get in return?

I think it's more about identifying active email addresses (i.e - ones where HTML graphics embedded in the message are downloaded), and then turning around and selling those to other spammers.

It's kind of a self-propelled wheel sort of scheme, but there've certainly been no shortage of buyers... :/

It's all in numbers. If they shoot out half a billion e-mails all over the globe, and even .5-1% of those buy something, they've made a shit ton of cash, at least I would think. They wouldn't be doing it if they weren't making cash.

That's great to hear! I'm sure they'll probably be up and running somewhere else after some period of time, but it's nice to see that some action is being taken.
