Okay, so I found my old Diablo CD and installed it a few weeks ago on my Eee. Been thoroughly addicted. This game is much better than Diablo 2; it's harder, more atmospheric, scarier, and more lethal.

Ehhhh. I like how many improvements d2 had over the original. Control wise, graphics, variety etc.

I used to be addicted like hell to d2. I use to put in 10 hour days into that in junior high/high school. But I never much cared for the original.

D1 is such a lonely experience, though. It's literally just you gradually working your way through an accursed church down into hell. It's so much darker and more atmospheric; none of the bright colors, absurd enemies, and ridiculous leaping around in D2.

No revives, no running, not much light, and some seriously tough quests (the Butcher especially) make it much more challenging and satisfying for me too. I spent a ton of time on D2, but playing D1 again was a breath of fresh air.

I actually kind of agree, I prefer the first Diablo.

I like the higher resolution in D2 more I always loved that those games ran on macs and had relatively low requirements because my friend had a shit ton of networked macs and we could all play multiplayer. Those times were double brutal. ohh yeah. I have D2 on my iMac lol (it's purple too)

Having said that, I never really played the original.

I grabed the D1/D2/expansion pack, and haven't even installed the first yet.

I like the fact that 2 expanded into a much bigger world, and it's kind of cool having the minions this time around, but you're right, D1 is scarier by far. I remember being really impressed, back in the day, by the last couple levels, where basically you had to clear a level demon by demon because even a pretty pimped out character was an awfully even match. The drill was basically take down a demon, portal back to town, get healed and restock on potions, go back down, take down the next, wash, rinse, repeat.

I think the only comparable battle I've seen in D2 was the fight with Diablo - most of the boss fights I'd have to hop back into town at least once to heal/de-poison/recast minions, but that battle was just grueling.

I don't know how many hours of my life I've lost to that damn Diablo 1.

I agree with Josh it's pretty atmospheric and scary.
