And I'm in. So should I go Core i5 or i7? The i5-2400 offers 10-50% better performance at $180 than the equivalent i5 processor did in Lynnfield at $200.
Unfortunately my motherboard appears to have an internal crack or bad solder joint near the RAM area, so it's working for now but goes up and down all the time. I had to kick the box to make it work this last time, and I'm upgrading my core before I have to deal with it going down again.
Basically the difference between the i5 and i7 is that the i7 offers a bit more L3 cache as well as hyperthreading support - so 4 cores can support 8 threads. Past that, no difference. Worth moving from $200 to $300?
And I can't afford a Macbook to replace it, so please don't taunt me. I'm trying to get out of this for <$500.
Just get a Mini for like $100 more.
