    ADT home security systems

Any of you have a service like this?

Home Security Systems, Home Security Products, Home Alarm Systems - ADT

I like the idea of the monitoring, plus there's an iPhone app that you can have it default-alert to before calling the police in case of false alarms. You also get a slight discount on your HO insurance with it as well.

ADT is kind of a rip off.

We have Safe-Touch around here, which pretty much offer the same thing.

Plus, I have two of these, so they help.

They also have a combined security and home automation service:

If you want ADT call Allconnect.... Phone Service Providers in my Area | Cable Internet Packages, which is actually my employer. Going through Allconnect you'll get the install price waived and monthly price starts at 35.99. Never had it so I can't say anything about the service itself. I know it apparently lowers home owner's insurance by 20% (Big selling point usually ).

The problem I've seen with ADT is that they are just a phone service that calls the "phone number on file" and then if you're lucky they will send a car out.

Typically they will dial the police, and around this area you are lucky if they show up at all.

We have ADT and have been very happy with them. If the alarm goes off, they call first, and then send the police. We don't have the fire monitoring, but we're planning on adding it at some point.

I also have a half dozen of these, so that helps too.

ADT kind of sucks. When I was a Restaurant manager we used it and I had problems with it (Phantom alarms in the middle of the night - after 2nd one was a 50$ fine)

One of the other stores had the same system and a guy drove a car through the front door and man-handled the safe out (that was bolted to the floor... so it took some time) and away he went - cops didn't get there til like 30 min later (reporting delay.....)

This is the biggest (funniest) Fail. One morning I go in to open up and do AM prep. I go to enter the # to turn off the alarm and the number pad falls off the wall. So there I Was, Alarm screaming behind me trying to figure out how to hook the number pad back up and get the alarm turned off before the cops came and shot me in the ass....

Of course the thing used some kind of weird connectors that were a PITA to re connect

The older systems required a phone line so somebody could cut your phone connection and ransack your place - the alarm would go off but no notification would go out..
