I am currently working on figuring out how wordpress works, so I have a site (Solar Integrated Systems) currently hosted on dreamhost with wordpress installed on their server (as well as the MySQL DB).
Now I would like to edit the individual source code of my pages, and not the style.css page or the template page. I looked through the FTP directory and through out the wordpress admin page but haven't found anything.
Any one know if this is possible, and if so how to go about finding where these files are stored?
WordPress has a built in editor that will allow you to make changes to all of your template files as well as your css. It is just a simple text editor so if you need WYSIWYG you will need to download the template files. (I forget the exact directory they are in but dig through them till you find themes...)
What I usually do Is download the default theme, duplicate it and then make my edits to the copied theme.
To make something from scratch - build your page normally
Break out a header and a footer file
Use the wordpress API to pull in functions
You want to create a theme - if you just start making html edits the the existing theme a lot of the times when you update wordpress your changes will be overwritten. (So you will have to re do it again) or the functionality might break (no blog!)
One thing that is helpful - look for an existing theme that is close to what you are looking for and tweak that.
