I meant to post this yesterday.
You know how you hit up Gamestop, and the poor worker is entitled to nag you about pre-ordering shit? It doesn't matter where I am - Mass, New Hampshire, Arizona - every time I buy anything there, I'm always asked 12 ways from Sunday to pre-order shit. I don't blame the employee, I assume they get some sort of commission on it.
Anyway. A few days ago I ventured out to grab some games and for the first time ever, I pre-ordered a game (DNF). I did the pre-order in New Hampshire, near my house. At lunch yesterday (50 miles from home) I popped into Gamestop near my work and said "Hey, I pre-ordered this, but not here, can I still pick it up?".
Nope. You can only pick up a pre-order, apparently, where you did said pre-order. So I said fine, how about you just refund me my pre-order from up there, and I'll just buy a copy here. Whatever, no big deal.
Nope. You can only get a refund on a pre-order where you did the pre-order. The employee actually suggested that I buy the game from him, and then drive up to New Hampshire to get my refund. I mentioned that if I were to do that, I'd just go pick up the game there, and he got offended.
This is stupid. I was in AZ last month and I bought a game out there and the guy asked me for ID because I used a debit card. My license pretty clearly says MASSACHUSETTS on it. Then he asked me about 9 times if I wanted to pre-order something. So apparently, if I did do it, not only would I have to fly to Arizona to pick up the game, but I couldn't get a refund out here.
The whole practice is stupid. Harassing your customers every time they actually walk into a retail store instead of saving money and time by just buying things online is why retail stores are going out of business. Shut the hell up and let me buy shit and be on my way.
that is retarded. i used to work at officemax, and we had to do the same thing with our "maxassurance" things on electronics. i stopped doing it because i refused to pester customers out of the store, and had threats of being fired thrown my way, so i left.
retail stores are ridiculous. but then you work at one
