So I bought Matt(drache)'s Toshiba Satellite A665. 17" screen, Core i7, 8gb DDR3, 640gb hdd, Nvidia Geforce 330M, backlit keyboard, etc etc. Great laptop, especially for the price. I felt like I needed a new laptop for school since my previous laptop died a premature death from a few foot fall, breaking the screen.
But I've had this for a day now and... to be honest... I don't think I'm going to be keeping it. While it's almost a desktop replacement, it's fast as hell, it's also giant, and I prefer the portability of my tablet to having a laptop, as I've already been using my desktop any time I needed more power than my tablet has... I'd use it the laptop for notetaking in class except that I don't have the discipline not to do other things like browse mg.org in class, so I just take paper notes now. I'm also not doing the software development thing anymore, I've officially switched to Engineering... Thoughts? 17" is quite a bit for a laptop, I totally understand where Chris was coming from now going through all those MBP's Truth be told, this laptop feels very old fashioned now, considering I've been using my tablet for everything laptop-ish I do since I got it in February.
I've got a 17", and I love it. I haven't really had an opportunity to become accustomed to a tablet; I can definitely see where using a tablet consistently and then going to a 17" can be very cumbersome.
The specs on the laptop sound really nice.
