So, Soops sent me some RAM for my iMac; 2x4gb sticks. I read a few places that said it's OK to put 1333MHz RAM into a machine that can only see up to 1067MHz. So, what I've got now, is something that was not recommended
empty - empty
2GB - 2GB
I put in the two 4's expecting to see this…
4GB - 4GB
2GB - 2GB
But, what I see is this…
Thoughts? My system is definitely running smoother/faster, it's just not recognizing the 12GB I was hoping for
They may be a rank that your system does not support or they don't support mixing ranks. (typically mixing ranks is not recommended even in systems that do support it) Like if you have 1 rank memory and add 2 rank memory it might only see the first rank of the second set so it would be half capacity. This happened quite a bit in the past...remember high/low density from old PC100/PC133 macs.
Take out the 2GB sticks and run only the 4GB sticks. If the system shows 8GB with just those then use that configuration because it will run cooler and use less power and who knows running half of a stick may have some weird side effect.
