So I managed to spill sweet and sour sauce on my macbook pro. It's a long story, but basically my girlfriend and I are sort of between apartments and don't really have any furniture at the moment. We were sitting on the bed eating, I put the sauce down for a second, my girlfriend moved, and over it went, all over the keyboard.
I immediately powered it down and cleaned it off as best I could, then left it for a couple days to dry completely. Turned it back on last night and it seems to work fine, except most of the bottom half of the keys and the trackpad are stuck in the down position. Everything seems to still work-the trackpad works fine and tap to click works, and the stuck keys still register if you hit them a little harder-but obviously I gotta fix this.
What are my options? I know this kind of thing isn't under warranty (and the machine is probably out of warranty by now anyway), but it seems like it probably just needs to be dismantled and cleaned. Will they do that at a Mac store? Any ideas on about how much that type of thing would cost? Any other worthwhile courses of action I should be checking out?
You should have cleaned more of it off with distilled water while it was still somewhat liquid. Sugars are the WORST thing for switches and moving parts. You can pop the key caps off easily and clean underneath them using Q-tips and distilled water and/or alcohol. Not sure what can be done about the trackpad.
