We now have a mish-mash of semi-incompatible wireless devices upstairs (the Blu-Ray won't do Hex keys, the router won't do plain-text, the HP Printer also doesn't fully follow the specs, the antenna on the old Mini is whonky, etc.), so what I'm thinking about is upgrading the wireless router downstairs, and getting two "decent" access points (AP's) for upstairs. Has anybody here done this? I'm really wanting to avoid the gotchas that never appear in the specs (like the partially implemented standards on the Blu-Ray, HP Printer and current router).
Also, any suggestions for specs? I know I'd like two or three ethernet ports on each of the AP's, but other than that, I'm not sure what else to look for. In the house we have: a Mac-Mini, my work Macbook, my government laptop, an HP Printer, Blu-Ray, Wii and two DS-replacement Netbooks. We don't (currently) stream music or movies and the Mini and MacBook are the only ones that have significant data usage.
I have an RTN56U and I love the shit out of it
