I appear to have joined the 21st Century. My home CD player finally died, and I discovered that this was the only viable replacement:
None of that iTunes/mp3/crappy audio shit for me. It's a USB DAC that converts digital audio into something my stereo likes. I guess it's really not much different than a DAW interface, but it's supposed to get rid of the "jitter" that you get with computer audio. So far, so good. Hell it even makes YouTube sound good.
Now, I just have to get around to ripping approximately 2,000 CDs. Yikes.
My next related purchase will probably be this:
[ Digital Pride COWON ]
I don't have a Bluetooth connection in my car, so getting the music onto the car stereo is more difficult without CDs. I want something relatively cheap that I'm not afraid to leave in the car plugged in (the phone is right out, then), but also something that plays FLACs (which iPods don't). The audiophiles seem to have latched onto the Cowon players, so I'll give it a try.
Digital Pride? That sounds like some kind of LBGT finger-fucking festival.
