fun facts about facebook from an entertaining science youtuber

This guys runs a youtube channel that has some of my favorite science videos. A few weeks ago he got curious about some oddities he noticed with facebook -

He then dug in a bit more and produced this video that has made some big waves in the nerd circle I run in

Wow. I had seen the first part, but not his follow-up. I'm glad i've never paid for advertising on Facebook… and now i never will.

I've got 8,600+ likes at the moment, and my reach is pretty decent. Engagement definitely varies depending on the post type and subject matter. I try to schedule my posts for peak visitor times. My last post got about 1,600 reach, with 27% of those clicking the post, and 5% engaging with a like or a comment. Not bad for an investment of $0 and a few minutes of time.

That was interesting, I noticed that most of the likes on an old band facebook page were from similar kind of areas though we never paid for advertising so we must have just been added as distraction likes.

    Sounds flagrantly corporate.

One of my band members decided to pay for some advertising on FB about a year ago. It was amazing how many fans in Indonesia we all of a sudden had. What a crock.

I run ads on face book all the time. Ads for actual products / Companies. (online Sales Solution)

they get a decent number of clicks/conversions.

Money for Likes is a huge ripoff and not worth it at all. Its like running a google adwords campaign with all of your keywords set to Broad and high bids (tons of clicks no conversions)

Closest thing to like farming I work on are custom Tabs / Pages for dumb shit like contests where you have to like or share to enter...

Meant to post this the other day - reason #3249823 that buying likes is pointless. When you post a status, it goes to a small percentage of your likes. If your likes are mostly fake ones that you bought on Fiverr (like our pals at the Guitar Porn site), they actually limited their audience by buying them.
