    Radio Shack closing 1,100 stores

Radio Shack closing 1,100 stores after dismal holiday -

Sad sign of the times, though completely expected. The 'Shack used to be a really cool place to shop, because they actually carried specialty electronics and nifty geek stuff that nobody else did.

These days it's all just shitty cell phones, shitty audio gear and, well, shitty everything else. I worked there the summer after I graduated high school, and it was a pretty coveted/cool place to work. These days, it's like Shitty Best Buy.

Yeah. It went from a hobby/specialty supply store to cheap chintzy consumer electronics. :-/

I stopped going to Radio Shack a long time ago. The problem is that they are so fucking overpriced on EVERY fucking thing. No need for a RS these days many cheaper places to go to get the same shit.

RS was the shit when I was a kid though. It was THE place to go to get parts for whatever electronic device you were building or repairing. It was one of the few places me and my dad could go to together and actually hang there for a while and not kill each other.
The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No.” ― Alan Moore

The ease of buying electronic supplies from online suppliers, for way better prices than Radioshack can really offer with it's overhead, I imagine was what lead radioshack to move primarily into phones and other consumer goods. However the competition in that department is much more fierce (especially in the past 5-10 years). It's not really surprising many aren't selling enough to pay for the expensive leases in the high traffic locations you typically see radioshacks.

all those employees should get jobs doing delivery, considering online shopping puts these places out.

on another note, last night i made a purchase online, then realized i had forget something. i made the other order and had to pay shipping again. so when i emailed them to try to get both orders shipped together and a refund on one shipping charge, they said no. because human being don't do anything anymore. its all automated bullshit.
