So, I was playing some Baldur's Gate, when the screen on my laptop started showing some artifacts, and eventually the whole computer locked up. I restarted, and it started up normally, but after about 5 minutes the artifacts showed up again, the computer froze and I had to do a hard reset again. After that the screen goes black when Windows boots (it still shows the loading screen, but when it has loaded the screen is black). Now I'm wondering if this is an issue with the graphics card or a software issue. It would suck a whole lot if the computer was dead, because I really can't afford a new one right now, and I need it for my studies...
I'm running windows 8.1, which was working perfectly until now. The graphics card is a Radeon HD5470 or something with Leshcatlabs drivers (there are no official HP drivers for windows 8).
Not sure, but I would think that if you can see *anything*, the graphics card should be OK, so it may be corrupt software/OS.
That said, I know nothing about video cards
