ill try to be brief.
i just switched from comcast to verizon. the comcast modem never worked or was set up properly. i have a link sys e4200 which i had plugged into the comcast router and just connected to that. the modem is upstairs.
now verizon came and put their stuff in. i just dL a few songs and it was kinda slow. so i logged on to check my speed and i got 13mbs. so i plugged my link sys back in to the verizon modem but i ran a cable downstairs and plugged it in there.it kinda acts crazy, but i did get it to connect for enough time to check speed and i got 58mbs.
now if i haven't lost you yet lol... am i losing mbs because my modem is upstairs? or is the link sys router just better than the verizon one?
i want to take full advantage of the 50mbs I'm paying for, but obviously running cables all over the house is not gonna happen.
I'm confused as to what ethernet does, and why my link sys doesn't work quite rite when connected to the verizon modem. it always worked fine when i connected it to the comcast one....
First thing I'd do is change the frequency range channel your router is broadcasting. Pick one in the middle, retest speed, and go from there until you get a channel that matches or is approximately the same speed as wired.
