I'm not a big phone fan at all, but my ancient phone finally died and I had to suck it up and get one.
Checked out a bunch of lists, including the Outside magazine one, to see which ones were tough enough for outdoor use.
Typed each option into Amazon. Every one had bitchy reviews from god damn metrosexuals and soccer moms about how it wasn't tough enough for their "extreme" app dependent lifestyle.
Someone just tell me what is tough as fuck before I throw my monitor out the window in frustration. Waterproof not mandatory, but I am outdoors a lot. So you know, something that is good enough for kayaking/skiing/trail running.

Otter box have always made good stuff. My old man used one for his iPhone and he works in demolition and it protected his from damage on more than one occasion.
