I've got a friend who is purchasing a new Macbook Pro in the next few weeks, and would like to also purchase an external drive for backing things up. After talking to her, here is some info
--will be backing up all files, but not the OS
--can be portable or require power source; doesn't matter
--preferably 1TB for future-proofing
I generally would recommend this guy: http://www.amazon.com/Passport-Ultra...dp/B00E055H5O/ Will that still be ok with her new MBP? There seems to be some disagreement about compatibility with newer Mac OS in the product Q&A and reviews.
Any other recommendations? Unfortunately, I think that due to the size she is looking for and her budget, an external SSD is out of the question.
I've had great luck with Western Digital products. If she's just backing up, and her budget is <$500, then the world is her oyster. She'll have plenty of decent options.
I think what you've linked there is more than sufficient.
