Dude, Thief started the sneaking genre. Your statement is basically analagous to "Doom? Never heard of it but I love Halo"

True, but MG's stealth vs. Thief's stealth isn't really a balanced comparison. MG was a shooter with some stealthy aspects to it. In Thief, you can literally play the entire series without ever killing anyone, or getting into combat at all. MG is still a combat game, whereas Thief definitely did define the stealth FPS genre, and give everything after it a basis to poach ideas from (like Deus Ex).

In that sense yes, it did originate the idea of not killing someone to make it through the game. I interpreted what he was saying as "Thief was the first game were you use stealth as a means to get around"

Since you were right about the Malazan books I suppose I'll have to take you up on this. Thief games are now on my list of games to play as soon as I finish far cry 2.

I remember seeing concept art for a cancelled Thief 4 a few years back that turned Garrett into an edgy parkour kid in a hoodie. Hopefully the studio that's doing it now (I think it's the same guys who are doing Deus Ex 3) leave that idea in the garbage.

Man, it's been way too long since I played Thief. I shall have to obtain 1&2.
