I have a task that needs an IRC server running on a private network on Windows.
What do most dorks use? I always use XMPP (Openfire) when it comes to chat, but have a requirement for IRC this time. I just tried UnrealIRCd, but the service dies immediately after installing on a completely clean XP install, so I have no faith in it.

mIRC?
A completely subjective discussion of semantics? Awesome!

Went with UnrealIRC, seems to do what I need it to do and runs as a service which is
.I do need a decent, free client now, however. mIRC is shareware with a 30 day trial, so that doesn't work. I've tried about 5-6 of them now (IceChat, xChat, etc) and they all want to populate themselves with a list of common servers/providers after installing. I need something that doesn't do that, because the network I'm using this on definitely can't connect to #Adultchat on dal.net by default.
