It's great to play it as a soldier, then a biotic, then an engineer, then a vanguard. I'm actually working through an insanity run right now as a soldier just to see if I can do it.
There are a number of games I rented and just didn't finish, and some games are real assholes about handing out achievements for just "playing" the game.

I can't be complaining anyways, I'm pretty high up on that list

Too much knowledge leads to confusion
Too many guitar lessons lead to jazz-fusion

I hear you. Last year's Madden game was awful for that. I must've logged 200+ hours on that game and only have about 4 achievements to show for it. Random achievements like sacking Kurt Warner and getting him to fumble, stiff-arming Bob Sanders, etc. are just dumb.

I really like achievements in games and I think it's very clear when developers have thought about their lists. When they are good they really extend the longevity of games for me. However, when they are bad they tend to leave a bad impression of the game overall. I only tend to look at the achievements and think about them once I have got as much out of the game through just playing it. The biggest problem I have had with achievements have been either:

- Really difficult achievements (ie - Devil May Cry 4 - totally punishing game which only gives out achievements to the very elite - ie - not me )
- Repetitive boring achievements - sports titles always seem to be like this - same achievements year in year out between titles and totally unimaginative things I can't be bothered to do
- Boring achievements - games that give out all the achievements just for playing the game. It leaves little to do at the end. Even ME2 which was brilliant handed out around 300GS for finishing the game. It would have been nice to have more reasons to go back to it.
