If so, can you answer something for me? My friend and I got there maybe 15-20 minutes before the end of the Mountain set (as we were there for Joe, had to work late, and dinner took longer than expected), so I don't know if something happened, but something was up with the drummer.
Forgive me for not really knowing the guy's name, but he was kind of gesturing to the audience for a while, and it gradually got more and more heated. Finally, he was flipping someone off, making jerking-off motions with the drumsticks, and either intentionally breaking or throwing his drumsticks on every cymbol crash in the last song. The stage guys were constantly running around, picking up discarded sticks and brinking him stacks of new ones on his floor tom.
What the fuck was up there? Did something go down between him and the audience, or was there an issue with the stage crew? Was he just drunk and being a jackass (his timing was a little shaky at points, too), or is this part of his normal stage act? Either way, it totally soured me on their performance - I came away more impressed with the music and with Leslie West than I expected to be, but sort of disgusted by the way their drummer carried himself.
(Satch kicked ass, of course. Great set, a lot of surprises - Ice 9, The Mighty Turtle Head, One Big Rush, and Ghost, a bonus track from the Japanese release, I think, of his newest, were totally unexpected).
Posted this at sevenstring.org, but thought I'd try here just in case someone doesn't see it there, because I really want to know...
That's really odd. He seemed pretty boring in Edmonton.
That bassist's hair was pretty damn entertaining though.
