I first saw Neil live in '93 or '94. He was a friend of a friend, and we went to the show and met him after.
First time I'd ever seen anyone fret their guitar with their nose.
I immediately picked up "Thrills & Chills
" and loved it front to back. Great record. Some cock-knocker in college stole the CD, and I've been bummed ever since. "The Joof
" is a great cut, with a stellar intro.
I've only heard a few tracks from stuff since, but Neil's definitely gone from a shred-fu maniac to a full-on musician. He's no longer running 100 yd. dashes; he's doing the 10k now.
He's also a genuinely nice guy. If you get the chance, grab a word or two with him. He LOVES his fans (figuratively, of course. Not like Dave and that whole case of KY incident at Virgina Beach. LOL) and digs talking to them.
I'm not sure if his homebase is still up in Cleveland. Might have to see when he's playing next....freak him out a bit....."Hey- remember me from 16 years ago in Denver?
