Eh, much as I love Testament, I'm not sure anyone other than (maybe) Smith/Murray were a better complementary pair than Sherman/Denner at Fate's height in the '80s. They were perfect foils for each other.

Great, I'm going to spend the rest of the day trying to come up with a better guitar duo, and I probably will come up with jack shit.

Totally different, but I guess these guys come close.

Edit: Listening to this now I've got to say they're definately cooler, IMO.

^ No, they don't. One was an incredibly talented young guitarist with an extremely fluid style, a dizzying array of exotic chops, and an immediately identifiable style. The other is Marty Friedman.

Bah, Marty was awesome in Cacophony, just as he was with Megadeth on RIP and Countdown to Extinction.

Becker and Friedman are more technically impressive, but riffs, man, riffs. Denner and Shermann batted 1.000 in riff-writing on Don't Break The Oath. They're all awesome.

What really pisses me off are the throwaways. There are riffs on that album that they will play twice and never use again, that I could write a whole song around. Hell, I think Candlemass based their entire career on the doomy ascending chord progression in "A Dangerous Meeting", and Fate only used it twice.
