Not really a picstory, cuz my phone camera isn't great in low lights.
So last night, my brother and a friend went to Harpos to see Testament with Unearth and Lazarus AD. Now, I'm a fucking lamer, and I don't have an ss.org shirt But one of my friend local bands were opening, so I wore their shirt. My friend/head roadie, Big John, was wearing the shirt I bought him from T-shirt Hell, "He loves the cock --->" He's a really big dude and never has good shirts to wear to concerts, so I told him I'd buy him the shirt, but he's gotta wear it to every concert we go to. He ended up with 8 photos with random people by the end of the night. More on that story in a bit...
We get there, walk around a bit, go check out the merch booth... and I saw this:
... sitting in the glass case with a sticker that said "Last 1" but it was folded up. So I asked what it was, T-shirt? Hoodie? He said T-shirt, I said what size? XL, I'll take it!! I didn't even think they still made this shirt, and its my favorite Testament album ever. So TOTAL FUCKING SCORE!! (Talked with the guys from Lazarus AD later on, and they all wanted to steal the shirt, as its their favorite Testament album too!).
My friends, Soldiers of Scrape, went on (albeit on the 2nd stage, apparently Testament fucked all the local acts and didn't let them play the main stage). Had bass rig problems, went straight DI into the PA. Middle of 2nd song, they blew the PA power! Too fucking metal for their shitty PA.
When they were done, Lazarus AD started on the main stage, which caught me off guard. So I ran over to see the main stage. They were fucking awesome. Unfortunately, the sound guy made them sound like shit. And we couldn't hear the guitars very clearly when the drums and bass were playing. But they were energetic and thrasy as all hell!! Bought 2 CDs, one for my drummer who couldn't make the show. Chatted with the singer/bassist and one of the guitarists later on. Cool guys!
Then another local act played the 2nd stage while main stage set changed. Silent Aggression. They sucked. Played a horrible cover of Refuse/Resist.
Then... the fun begins. Unearth was about to come on stage... when Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" comes on the PA. Everyones laughing, and singing along mind you, and then after the part where Neal Schon does the rapid high note wankage, Unearth hits that same chord, the PA music dies, and they start. Fucking funny shit!!
I'm not even going to try to give an account of Unearth's set... because they're too fucking crazy to!! Its a sight you have to just see yourself. Ken flipped one of his monitors upside down, so he could use it as a podium to stand on while soloing and other stage antics. Buz and Ken were all over that stage, jumping off the Ampeg bass cabs standing on monitors, etc etc. Buz was playing his silverburst S series LACS, and Ken was playing a red S series. Buz also played an RG1527MGW for the last song of the set.
Here's a couple of shitty pics:
Got to meet Buz after they played. Shook his hand and said "Hey Buz, or should I say, Chest Rockwell" to which his response was "Oh yeah, hey you got me. You're like family" We chit chatted for a while. Talked about his LACSs (and I told him if he ever sells the red RGA7 that I wanted dibs!). He, and the drummer, both got pics with my buddy Big John with his "ILTC" shirt. The drummer told him he was going to buy those shirts for everyone in the band the next day Could you imagine that?? So if you guys see pics on their site, that's my friend.
Here's another shitty pic with me and Buz:
He's holding a Harpos glass that had this weird mixed drink in it... I went and got one too. Not bad actually. Vodka, Tequila, Grenadine, and some other shit. $7 for the first, $5 for refills
Then came Testament. Put on a great show! Sound was fucked up in the beginning (which for anyone who has ever been to Harpos... the sound there ALWAYS sucks). Couldn't hear Chuck's singing whatsoever. Was staring at the sound guy who looked pissed as hell. He ran around the back of the board and started yanking cables all sorts of pissed off. Finally fixed it after a while. Then the mix was ok. Played all sorts of songs, but what made me happy was I got to hear "D.N.R." which is my favorite Testament song ever. I was happy.
Went to Rams Horn afterwards, and got some Fish Sliders (imaging the Filet-O-Fish the size of a White Castle) with fries. All in all, a good damn night!
Sounds like a great gig .
I'd kill to see Testament live. And yes, D.N.R. is fucking killer.
