Cool After The Burial

What do you guys make of 'em?

I've had their album since it was released, and at first I was blown away... then I was disappointed at how many borderline-gay harmonised riffs they had.

Now their songs are growing on me again

The bouncy clean bit in The Fractal Effect at 2:50 is pure genius

When I've had enough of listening to Meshuggah (which is extremely rare) I put these guys album on and I'm actually starting to dig it a lot

When I first heard them, I was also blown away, however, now to me they're just starting to sound like every other band out their with either ridiculous amounts of breakdowns or trying to be too technical with polyrhythms and stuff. To be fair aswell, I don't think melody works awful well in that particular style of music most of the time, it's got to be perfect for it to work. Alot of hardcore bands have the same problems aswell, which is why personally, I cannot stand all this new hardcore shit! Give me some old Hatebreed or Martyr A.D. any day

I do enjoy a bit of Hatebreed

however, I wouldn't really call ATB hardcore, I'd say they were melodic death metal/prog really

they are basically a more melodic Meshuggah but I'm a sucker for Meshuggah rip off bands

Noooooooooo, I didn't mean ATB were hardcore, but they do have a bit of a hardcore influence to them. They were okay the first few times I heard them, after that I just felt pretty 'meh' about it all. Typical 8 string shit that everyone is doing, and we've already stated the only 1 band that can do it. Besides maybe DH at a push and Emperor

I think they utilise 8 strings better than Meshuggah

Ah well, personal opinion I suppose. I'm starting to find most music these days is starting to sound samey though. The whole Deathcore/Metalcore scene is really starting to take the piss aswell. The only band that actually stood out to me was The Red Shore, seen them live they blew me away, but even they're starting to sound a little samey now I think there's only me posting because we're the only brits on mg.org right now

I really like them. I think they definitely utilize 8 strings better than Meshuggah, and the poppy stuff...well, it may not be my cup of tea, but it fits. I really dig them, the only thing that I can think of that I don't like every once in awhile is the vocals. But yeah, they are real good.

I fucking love ATB. Used to listen to both albums during my computerized math class.
