I don't have the song's name, but I was on holiday in Italy this weekend, went to see my 'mate's' band (who I'll post a link to shortly - they're great), and whilst walking around in Genoa, I came across a big stage being built for some sort of fashion show in the city centre.
They're blasting out music from the PA, soundchecking it and whatnot. The music they're playing is Eminem, and it's obviously from his new album. I know this because I, somewhat shamefully, quite like Eminem and have two of his albums and know the others pretty well (yes, D12's included ). Anyhow, I stood around to watch what was going on for a second and smoke a ciggy, and one track ends and the next begins. I immediately noticed it; it's in bleedin' 5/8!
I haven't heard anyone rapping over anything other than 4/4. I've heard lots of vaguely cool syncopation and rhythms, but it's always been over a 4/4 time signature. So it was pretty surprising to hear Eminem doing this. I thought it sounded pretty cool, too. It's also kind of a coincidence because I think Daniel Gildenlow of Pain of Salvation has a bit of a soft spot for Eminem. And he sometimes does slightly rap-style stuff on some PoS over funny time signatures, and PoS's last album lyrically took a big swipe at people like him.
I doubt Eminem listens to or is influenced by Pain of Salvation. But who knows, maybe he heard them because of the swipe at him.
Anyhow, I digress. I'll try to find its name.
5/8 = technical? Then I guess my band is pretty fucking technical.
As far as rap goes, I've always liked Eminem's style, although I think he's pretty pathetic as a person (and his lyrics oftentimes reflect that).
