Default Northern Kings - Epic Metal Cover Band

Thoughts?

Kinda odd... they seem to love 80's tunes, and thy're very talented, and some of their versions kick ass. Some, not so much. (They fucked with the monumentally awesome 'Wanted Dead or Alive.')

Here's a few vids

There's a bunch more on the YouTubez.

I have both cds. Awesome stuff.
But you're right... out of both cds, they could have made just one great cd.
Still pretty cool, though. Their version of Frank Sinatra's My Way if fucking bad ass.

I really love a few tracks and really hate a few others. I had high hopes for "Kiss From A Rose" and was so intensely let down.

Probably my favourite of theirs:

Me, too.

Then again, the original is one of the most perfect songs ever. How do you top it? Try to do it better, which is impossible, frankly, or do it very different, which will probably suck.

It's very true. Best "cover" I've heard of it was actually a local singer who sang it as an audition for Canadian Idol of all things. Obviously, it was a short clip, and unaccompanied, but it was really amazing. I can't find a clip of it, but here's another clip of her so you can get the idea of the kind of singing ability she has:

(singing another song that's usually butchered by people covering it)

(and, with her old band, who were also awesome)

If anyone here likes Marco Hietala's singing (I do), check out his band Tarot for some kickass metal. His talents are largely wasted in Nightwish, though I'm sure he doesn't mind the big paychecks.

Their version of "Don't Stop Believin'" rules.

I like it a lot better than the original, actually.

This is my favorite from Tarot:
