    Gypsy Jazz Appreciation Thread

I'm pretty big on gypsy jazz, these guys can fucking PLAY. What fascinates me is how different the technique is on BOTH hands when you play this type of stuff in comparison to metal soloing. But I guess in some way or another these guys are the TRUE godfathers of shred!

I thought I'd share some of my favorite gypsy jazz guitarists =)

    Joscho Stephan-

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Stéphane Grappelli play live not long before he died. He was such a frail old man, and had to be helped on stage and sat throughout the whole show. But once he started playing, it was like he sprouted wings and was soaring through the rafters of the theatre. It was amazing.

    Man, those cats can swing.

Whats even more ridiculas about Django is that he was missing a finger or two on his left hand and still managed to play really well.

He wasn't missing them, IIRC. As a kid, he was caught in a fire in his caravan, and the tendons to his ring/pinky fingers were shortened. He could only fret the two treble strings on his guitar with them, which left the 4 bass-side strings to his index/middle fingers.

Much like Iommi, he made do with what he had, and rocked the fuck on
