Default Jeff Beck > everyone else.

...And I'm seeing him at the O2 this month!!!

One cannot mention Jeff Beck without mentioning that his current bassist is hot.

Isn't she wicked young, too?

Anyway, I'm not even a huge "fan" of his, but he's an amazing player. You have to respect him.

She's 24, cute as hell, and is one hell of a bass player with a list of accomplishments befitting someone twice her age. Just pull up a bunch of recent Jeff Beck vids, and you can see that she really gets into it live.

Jeff, of course, doesn't need to have anything said about him. The guy is wicked talented, and his material makes practically all the other solo guitar stuff just sound boring and self-indulgent. He's pretty much the prototype for this sort of thing.

How much of this sort of stuff do you think Satch mined when he wrote "Satch Boogie"?

I love Jeff Beck, but damn, I think his bassist shows him up on this one:

The look on his face says it all. That climbing arpeggio run was like, "take that!"

That entire Live at Ronnie Scott's DVD is great. One of my favorite music DVDs. The funny thing is, Jeff claims he was a complete bundle of nerves during that run of shows at Ronnie Scott's because he hadn't played such small places in a long time. It doesn't show in his performances at all.

To me, some of the stuff that Jeff does, especially his whammy bar runs, is ten times more difficult than what all those YouTube shredder types are doing. It's almost seems like an ability you have to be born with.

Can't watch, but let's say a fair amount of it, most likely. Satch rocks out a little harder and is a little deeper into traditionally bluesy stuff than Beck, but especially something like "Because we Ended As Lovers," you can totally hear where Satch is coming from. Hell, "Blow By Blow" pretty much was the prototype for the modern instrumental guitar album.

I know that if I had the time to dedicate to a metronome and boring repetition, I could burn through scales that fast. Jeff Beck's precision drops scare the crap out of me. He's making Steve Vai look like a amateur. There is no question in my mind, he is the most talented guy with a whammy bar that I can think of, especially when he throws in the volume swells. The faux slide and harmonica stuff simply boggles the mind.

Blow By Blow was what I immediately thought of when I first heard Satriani years ago. "Freeway Jam" is really the one that points the way to Satch. In a way, Satch just took Beck's fusion-era records and turbocharged them with an '80s sound.

In support of the Wired album, Beck did a joint tour with Mahavishnu Orchestra. That must have been mindblowing.

I am really happy I was way too young to have seen that, or I might have quit before I picked up the instrument.
