Default If you could be any guitarist, who would you be?

And why? Simple question.

Personally, I'd be Billy Gibbons.

He has this very distinctive yet simple style. You can tell he's him instantly. Also, ZZ Top are a huge band in terms of sales and revenue without being as popular as their wallets would suggest.

Plus, he has this effortless quality to him. He can just do whatever the fuck he wants, and it would just be brilliant.

Even though he's not my favourite guitarist, I'd pick Chris Broderick. The man is full of talent, has fantastic technique, stunning gear, and knows more than what people think he does.

Taking a page from the Ty Tabor "book", if I could be any guitar player, I'd be Ryan R. Miller.

I imagine this thread is gonna be full of "Want to be Satch/Guthrie/Vai/Petrucci etc etc" but I'll admit I've gotten less interested in that type of guitar playing as times goes on.
I feel a lot of the coolest stuff that's been done on guitar in the last 15 years or so has been stuff that is not at all that kind of traditional playing we are used to hear (the usual riffing/soloing styles) and more about atmospheres and textures and having the ego of the guitarist take a back seat more and just let the compositions breathe a little.
Stuff like Aaron Turner's playing in Isis is what I'm talking about.
He may not be blessed with Shawn Lane chops, but his ability to transcend the normal parameters of what has been done on guitar is just amazing.
That's the kind of guitarist I'd love to be, but probably never will be
