I saw these guys on Friday night:
Them Crooked Vultures | Them Crooked Vultures
I'm not a real big jam-band guy, but they were pretty damn good. TONS of weird offtime stuff, JPJ plays the hell out of just about every instrument under the sun, and the Queens of the Stone Age guy is a pretty charismatic frontman.
Some of the jams went on way too long for my tastes (probably because me and my buddies were the only people not high on something during the show) but overall they put on a really tight show.
Say what you will about Dave Grohl, but man does he beat the shit out of his drums. They played for about 90-100 minutes and he hit hard, hard, hard the entire time and more than kept up with the rest of the band. I never really considered him a technical drummer, but at some points during the show he sounded like a more groove-oriented Portnoy without all of MP's cronic overplaying. In a nutshell, I was really impressed.
Cool show, good band, you guys who are into jam bands would probably enjoy the hell out of their live set.
This is one of my friends' favorite bands. He's a huge QOTSA fan and is trying to get me into them. They 'aight!
