So my brother's other band has asked me to run the mix for their show this Friday night (@ The Ritz in Warren, MI for those who live in MI )
They have a pretty complex mix to their sound: 2 guitars, 1 bass, 3 keyboards, drums, 4 vocals (Which is the part that always gets screwed up by local sound guys). And as I'm very familiar with most of their songs, I know how the mix should go, when to boost whom during what parts, which person is singing the lead at what time, etc etc etc.
I'm decently familiar with running sound, although I've never actually ran sound at a venue. So any advice, especially running monitor mixes, are welcomed as I want to make sure I do a good job obviously.
My only concerns really are that the drummer wants just snare/kickdrum/and little bit of guitars his monitor... but I'm not sure how to accomplish this. I know this club has a 2nd board at the side of the stage for monitor mixes. But how do I blend those into JUST the drummer's monitor? I'm assuming they'll have separate busses setup for the monitors, and I'd just have to adjust that particular aux bus' level on those 4 channels? Is that about right?
[action=Regor]is also worried that the house sound guy might get pissy I'm stepping on 'his turf' and not be willing to help me out any. If he cops an attitude and says "Its your show, do it" I'm gonna bitch slap him and tell him HE'S the one getting paid for the night, so don't even think of taking the night off.[/action]
Talk to Bill aka popsyche. Seriously he is amazing at running a soundboard.
