Fuck off.

Not that i'm that big of a fan, but IMHO Hendrix = the father of modern electric guitar, end of story. No Hendrix, no whatever-superb-playing-guitarists-only-known-to-other-guitar-players there is today... Anyway, who cares.

There were plenty of awesome guitarists right around and prior to hendrix who were doing awesome things but got ignored because Hendrix bit it.

Then again, that's my opinion, and I can't be proven right or wrong unless we can see an alternate (And probably more awesome) present reality.

There can be but little liberty on earth while men worship a tyrant in heaven.”~ Robert Ingersoll

I think we're also pretty far-removed from the Hendrix era, people coming into guitar playing now and even around the time I started playing aren't going to appreciate him like people who grew up on his stuff. I've never been a big fan.

I would say Vai. He has such a range of styles he can play (plus he's been my favorite for a loooong time, so I'm biased).

Was going to say EVH, but chose Vai.

Can't comment on Guthrie Govan. Want to find a CD of his but haven't yet. If I would hear him I might change my mind.
