A Metal Guitarist forum has to have a thread devoted to Steve Vai. Like most young boys I fantasised about playing guitar but it became a real desire when I heard Steve Vai for the first time.
It's a bit cliché but "listening to For the love of God" for the first time is I think my most memorable musical experience and when I saw this video for the first time it happened all over again.

Steve Vai I to you.
The guy made a huge impact on me as well. The first instrumental disc I ever brought was 'The Seventh Song' (primarily because it was the only Vai disc my local record shop had). I remember thinking it sounded like it was coming from another planet at the time, but gradually it kinda 'clicked' with me. Been a fan ever since.
Actually, some of my favourite work by him is on the 'Sex and Religion' album, which I don't think deserves a lot of the bad press it gets.
