...in the car and I have to admit I sometimes forget how incredible this album really is. I really have a hard time finding anything to complain or bitch about while I'm listening. I love the production even more so than Empire, which I thought was too polished sounding for my tastes. Operation Mindcrime still has some grit but it also just sounds so clear and perfect. The guitar tone is classic Queensryche and the drums & bass are so locked in. I don't give enough credit to Eddie Jackson for his playing on this album and I think this was the peak for Rockenfield as far as his playing is concerned. It was probably Tate's peak as well.
I have a hard time thinking of another late 80's metal album that I would rank higher. Sadly, I and most of us I assume just have to pretend Queensryche broke up around 1995 or so.
My old bassist used to hate on Eddie Jackson, since he thought he played "too simple". He never realized that he is the glue that holds the entire album together. The weird chord inversions and angular lines only work with a solid rhythm section.
Fucking brilliant album.
