Alright, so I get that Amy Lee gets shit for not being the best live singer, but I love the band, love their music, so I generally catch the show when they're around. I hadn't actually seen them since 2006, before the remainder of the drama had happened and they flushed out the rest of the band.
Last night was fucking awesome. The new drummer, bassist, and guitar player fucking slay the old guys by a longshot, especially the drummer. Will Hunt fucking rips it up.
As for Amy, she finally did what I hope she would: stop jumping around so much to the point where she can't sing. She stayed put, either standing, or behind the piano, and her vocals were FAR better for it, pretty much spot on. I thought it was just me being "in the moment" at the concert and thinking she did better than she really did, but my buddy caught 3 songs on his Atrix (AWESOME FUCKING VIDEO AND SOUND!!) and she sounded great. Band was tight, she was tight and she did well. She played A LOT of piano, which I really liked a lot.
They pretty well snubbed Fallen, and played nearly the entire new album and a couple off of Open Door.
All in all, great performance, and I was really happy for $35.
Rival Sons? Not much to say. Good guitar tone, talented singer, but I liked them better when they were called Led Zeppelin. Seriously, be influenced by bands.......don't fucking Xerox them.
The Pretty Reckless? Same boat. A hybrid of Joan Jett and Courtney Love, and not really all that great. They were relatively tight, but I was just not impressed. Plus, I had been standing for several hours, so I was crabby anyway.
I'm really pissed that the UK folks get Evanescence with Fair to Midland. That's a show I'd be really fucking psyched about.
