My band Dread Effect got a last minute show offer for last saturday night to open for Willie Basse due to a band backing out at the last minute. We decided to take it to help the promoter and booking agent out and as a result it looks like we are going to be getting some national act opening slots coming our way. Uli Jon Roth is the first one we have secured and we're hoping to get a few others through the year.
I'm FREAKIN' STOKED! Now being that I'm 36, a career guy, husband, and father of 2 kids and a mortage, I have no illusions of making the "big time" or "getting signed." But opening for nationals is something that I have wanted to achieve for quite a while.
I'm no guitar legend but I do feel like I have the respect of my fellow players in the local scene so I'm no slouch when it comes to rippin' a solo out so I'm really honored to be opening for such a resepcted and legendary guitar player.
Bottom line: It may not seem like a big deal to some people but it's a big deal and accomplishment to me!
Hell yes dude! Good luck!
