I saw two great bands last night: Lifestory Monologue and Sights and Sounds.
First up, Lifestory Monologue:
Very interesting! They blend spoken and raspy vocals with great melodic singing (bassist, keyboard player, drummer!). The stage presence was good, and one of the guitarists even uses a bow a la Page. I was expecting a heavier sound from the band, but really enjoyed the more relaxed atmosphere. I found the music to be well-written, and I really liked the way their dynamics shifted.
You can hear them here:
Sights and Sounds: I saw this band a few years ago, and my first thought was "Damn, their singer sounds like the guy from Comeback Kid!" - well, it was .
One of the things that got me about SAS was the emotion and energy that the vocalist put into his performance. You could tell that everyone on stage was into it and played with passion. This definitely rubbed off on me, and I was completely "in the zone" watching the set.
I enjoy more ambient sounding stuff to contrast the heavy bands, and these guys did a great job of getting big tones with reverb and delay. There was a keyboard player with them for this show, which added a cool element to the music as well.
I haven't been to a show in a while, and I felt inspired to write and perform after watching these bands play. I've been wanting to write some delay-filled music, and this inspires me to borrow a pedal, sit down and do it.
I'd love to hear what you guys think about these bands
Ah this is the "used to be in figure four a brutal hardcore band" singer lol. He's cool, I liked him more in FF but he's good in CK too.
