...wasn't actually the show. It was the bar we went to afterwards.
I went with a bassist buddy of mine and a few of his friends, and we made a couple friends at the show so we figured we'd all go out for a beer or two afterwards at a bar just up the street (The Beantown Pub, for any of you who know the area).
The Beantown Pub is your classic "casual" Boston bar - decent pb food, pool tables in the back, and on a Thursday night, guaranteed to be loaded with the young "after work" crowd and college students old enough to drink. In short, not a bad place, but a little douchey at times.
Enter us. We're rolling about 8 deep by this point, and a few other groups who'd clearly just left the show came in as well so next thing you know we all start talking and there's like fifteen or twenty metalheads hanging out in the back of the bar. Some of us don't really look the part, but enough guys had long hair and leather that we were clearly not the usual crowd.
Now, the Beantown is one of those places with a giant online jukebox. Typically, you hear a lot of normal pop music being played, and when we showed up we probably had some mix of Katy Perry and her ilk on. We tuned it out for a while, but it was loud as all hell so it was a bit tough. Eventually however someone got a bit intrepid and started digging around to see just what we had at our disposal on the thing.
Let me tell you, the horrified look on people's faces as, suddenly, Meshuggah's "Bleed" started blaring through the Beantown Pub at maximum volume was absolutely priceless. Some guy actually had the bartenders turn it down, so one of the guys in our party went back over and had them turn it right back up.
We were just cracking up.
