I guess if you include Mutt Lange as the 6th member of the band, they're down 3-and-a-quarter members from their heyday.

That's true, they were a team.

I'm sure Vivian Campbell will find something to bitch about during this process.

I think this is a pretty ballsy move to stick it to the label, and will definitely be curious to see how it comes out.

Yeah, it's an interesting play on their part.

I also wonder if it's a bluff - that they threatened to do this in negotiations with the label, the label called their bluff, and the band is making every motion of going ahead with it until the label eventual capitulates and comes to terms with them. I mean, as much as this scares you guys, imagine how the label must feel, to potentially be about to get cut out of a multi-million dollar online distribution deal.

Yeah, Drew may be on to something I'd be interested to hear this anyways, even if it turns out terrible. I'd almost prefer that they don't try to copy the originals exactly and just record the same songs, but how they play them today, and a little more live rather than overdubbed and punched-in to hell and back

Not that anyone here would care about them, but Reel Big Fish did the same thing for their Greatest Hits recently, since all of their back catalogue is owned by their former label, who were releasing a "Greatest Hits" without their permission or involvement. They just re-recorded all of their favourite and fan favourite songs and released it, along with an album of acoustic versions. Stuck it to the label, and it was cool to hear the songs as they're done today, with the current (at the time) lineup.

Who? Reel Big Fish? Not that I'm aware of, and they're a ska band from the 90s.

Quick YouTube search says you're thinking School Of Fish.
