Ok so the reasons I'm creating this thread are a) to share how awesome the Finnish death metal scene was and b) just share music scenes(metal or otherwise) that just vanished all of sudden or never got a chance to fully explore their potential.
So recently I've been exploring more and more bands from the Finnish death metal scene and I am absolutely stunned at the quality of death metal they produced. I love their emphasis on haunting melodies/atmosphere and doom while still being aggressive.
However this scene only existed during the early - mid 90's. Quite a few bands just managed to produce a handful of demos and EP's and only a few managed a full length. after that they either broke up or changed their style completely or released really mediocre albums later on . For eg. bands like demilich, depravity, Demigod, Convulse, Purtenance, Adramelech, Rippikoulou, Mordicus etc.. only manged to relase one album/EP before calling it a day or ended up releasing really mediocre ones later on, whereas bands like Amorphis, Disgrace, Xysma, Sentenced changed their style dramatically.
When one discusses Death metal certain styles have become quite a bit like a brand such as the swedish or american death metal(so many bands playing the dismember/entombed/grave/immolation/incantation style) where as other have mostly become really obscure and this is certainly a bit dissapointing. I love the aforementioned styles but it would've been more amazing if these bands from finland enjoyed some similar success. That being said there are some modern bands like stench of decay, Krypts, Ascended, Corpsessed, Gorephilia, slugathor, desecracy etc are bringing back the style with their own unique touches to give them their own identity.
So what other scenes do you guys think could have benefited from getting more exposure?
Anyways here's some music

totally the biggest loss in death metal (sub genre wise) is the disappearance of finnish death metal. Those doomy melodies... and the brutal yet groovy riffs are seriously awesome.
sort off topic but for some reason whenever i listen to blood red throne it reminds me of the early finnish death metal scene. (KRYPTS!!!!!) I know they don't sound that much alike but i just find it funny
EDIT: sort of close sound is the estonian death metal band Nihilistikrypt which has that finnish sound somewhat but is also highly influenced by swedish scene
what happened to swedish black metal? is it just me or have things really slowed down since lifelover ended
