It's great to be here - found this site just yesterday and really enjoying a lot of what's posted.
I wanted to share something that a fellow band member said to me a couple of days ago that really shocked me...
He was telling how he was at a party a few years ago and the amazing Vivian Campbell was there. Vivian found a guitar in the corner and started noodling around and my band said he was stunned as he listened - Vivian was making *music*, not just shredding. He went on to say that as he listened the playing was full of micro-pauses, odd notes and shapes that 'just sounded right'...
I said 'so what you're saying is Vivian was playing beyond scales and knowledge and was tapping into something he'd never learned nor could be learned?'
My mate replied 'Yea I guess thats it...he just had 'that something' that separated him from other players'.
As I thought about this it has really shocked me...it's the X factor and no amount of practice will learn it...it's something you either are born with or will never have.
Thoughts? Viv Campbell fucking rules. I <3 Nightswans.
