I don't even really listen to that style of tech death. (He played in BRT too, which I am a huge fan of, but he was arguably under-utilized there.) But Erlend is just one of the few musicians out there that I listen to just because he puts so much crazy aggression in his playing. Seriously. I might not be a huge fan of this kind of stuff compositionally, but his "voice" on the instrument is fucking crazy. There are a lot of other lame tech death bass players out there that do the crazy techniques, but none of them combine it with the aggressive right hand and command of groove this guy has. I can't think of a single other modern metal bass player that does fingerstyle this well.
