I have done it before but the guys in the band were good fun, so even though the music wasn't my thing I got on well with them as people which made it more enjoyable.
Although I didn't like the music that much, it wasn't completely straight forward so required a bit of effort to learn and play so was able to take some enjoyment from the challenge. Also there is no substitute in terms of experience for playing live in front of audiences.
It depends what you want out of it, but if it's some live experience and the chance to play in a band (as long as they are good people and make the shows good fun) I think you can be reasonably pragmatic about it.
If you want anything else I would give it a miss. At the same time it's worth being reasonably open minded in the future, as you aren't always going to be lucky enough to play with people who are decent, good fun, good band members who also happen to want to play the same music as you.
